Approximately 80% of Scotland’s land mass is under agricultural production. The climate and soil of the north east of Scotland make the ideal conditions for agriculture which has been historically a vital part of the economy. Stewart & Watson are ideally placed to offer advice and support to the many people involved in the different parts of the rural economy, and have the knowledge of its unique challenges to enable us to do so.
We provide advice and assistance to both landowners and tenants of rented farms drafting documentation at the start and end of a farm lease, including the various notice procedures and waygoing claims that might arise. While a lease is ongoing, we can provide advice on retiring from a tenancy, right to buy, rent review, subleasing, improvements and diversification amongst others. We have many years of experience advising both buyers and sellers of a wide range of rural properties including Farms, Estates, forestry and fishings and we understand how to negotiate the complex issues in order to assist clients through the whole process. We also advise clients who are involved in farm partnerships as their families change and grow, and those considering letting part of their farm for renewable energy projects such as wind turbines, solar panels or battery storage.
